Outdoor Excursions located on the banks of Antietam Creek between Historical Sharpsburg and Boonsboro MD since 1985 has conducted kayaking lessons and trips. We also offer canoeing, kayaking and tubing rentals, trips on historic Antietam Creek and the nearby Potomac River. Experienced American Canoe Association instructors provide an organized fun learning environment on all instructional trips. Just a short drive from Washington DC come out and enjoy the day or spend the weekend.
New or casual paddlers will enjoy floating Antietam Creek in our easy to master sit on top recreational kayaks. Participants frequently spot herons, kingfishers, wood ducks, deer and sunning turtles. History abounds along the creek includes old stone bridges, mills, farms, and Civil War sites on Antietam Battlefield. Canoes are also available for this trip.
Tubing is a popular outing for families and groups of friends. Congregate at the Outdoor Center. Float the cool, spring fed waters of Antietam Creek that wrap around the property in our comfortable tubes. Enjoy multiple runs along our natural river course or take a break – relax in a lawn chair, eat your lunch in our pavilion or throw Frisbees on the lawn.
Brown trout, rainbow trout and bass ply the waters of Antietam Creek. Arrange a fishing expedition on the creek or a day float fishing on the Potomac at Harper’s Ferry with an experienced fishing guide.
Antietam Creek and the nearby Potomac River provide an excellent environment for instructions for all levels of whitewater kayaking. A low student – teacher ratio enhances student progression creating a personalized, systematic, fun learning experience. Weekend lesson packages which include instruction, equipment rental and lodging in our modern dorms are available.
New this year, is our Summer Kid’s Week. Seasoned counselors will lead campers through a fun filled week of water oriented activities including kayaking, tubing and rafting. An overnight campout will round out the week.
