Kayak Lessons

Outdoor Excursions specializes in providing quality kayak instruction in the Washington area. Kayaking is a popular sport for all ages and requires no previous experience. We maintain a low student/instructor ratio, which enhances student progression. Each class is taught by an experienced paddler certified by the American Canoe Association which allows instruction to be systematic, easy to follow, and fun.

Whitewater Programs

• Full Day Sampler: Morning instruction; afternoon moving water instruction.
• Weekend Package: Two days of instruction; two nights lodging; evening video reviews; lunch; shuttle.
• Paddling Club: Designed for individuals in the three or five lesson package for extra paddling time.
• Packages of Three or Five Lessons

Indoor Kayaking Lessons

Indoor Kayaking classes will be conducted in Alexandria VA. The classes are designed for both beginners and those who want to improve rolling. There will be extensive video at all sessions. These classes are limited in space to the first 12. There will be 2 ACA certified instructors at all classes and all equipment is provided.

• When: Friday evening 7:30pm - April 4 & 20. All day April 12, 13, 26, 27 Recommended practice days March 29 & April 6
• Where: Outdoor Excursions Learning Center in Boonsboro, MD
• Cost: $375 plus ACA membership

Sea Kayaking/Touring Programs

Outdoor Excursions offers both sea kayak lessons and tours, which are mostly conducted on the Chesapeake Bay.

General Information and Pricing Kayaking

5:1 student instructor ratio.
Classes 2.5 hours in length, unless otherwise specified.

Single Lessons: $55 - Designed for individuals with prior kayaking experience at all levels.

Three Lesson Package: $130 Formatted with a low student instructor ratio to improve skills in whitewater or sea kayaking. Entitles you into Paddling Club.

Five Lesson Package: $195 Designed to cover all elements of basic whitewater kayaking. Students will be taught basic strokes, the Eskimo roll and how to read whitewater. Entitles  you into Paddling Club.

Paddling Club: $19 weekdays. Extends paddling for individuals in Three or Five Lesson Packages.

Whitewater Kayak Sampler: $87 For beginners. Sampler consists of a 2.5 hour morning lesson and afternoon instruction on moving water.

Sea Kayak Level I: $87 Sampler consist of morning and afternoon instruction on the Chesapeake Bay in historic Annapolis, MD.

Sea Kayak Level II: $87 Designed for individuals with previous paddling experience, who want to improve their skills and explore different areas of the Chesapeake in and around Annapolis, MD.

Tours: See Schedule

Whitewater Kayak Weekend Package: $245 Clients spend the weekend learning paddling techniques, and sharing in a unique and supportive group environment. Includes daily videotaped paddling reviews. Lessons are held on nearby rivers and creeks as well as on the Potomac River.
Friday: 7:30 p.m. Check in for lodging; evening get-together at base camp on Antietam Creek.
Saturday: Shuttle; 2.5 hour morning class; lunch; afternoon class; evening video session; lodging.
Sunday: Shuttle; full day class; lunch.
